Joan was born in 1565 in Dunstable, Bedford, England and her baptism took place there on February 12th, 1565.¹ Joan's father is William THORNTON and her mother is Joan. Her paternal grandparents are Thomas THORNTON and Elizabeth. She had seven brothers and a sister, named Richard, Thomas, John, John, Oliver, William, Edward and Frances. She is the third oldest of the nine children.
