May was born in 1889. May's father is Joseph Parish and her mother was Octavia Brunwin. Her maternal grandparents were Robert William Brunwin and Sarah Ann Miles. She had three sisters named Gertrude, Eva and Beatrice. She was the youngest of the four children. She died at the age of 26 in 1915.
