Hannah was born in 1867 in Wandsworth, London, England. Hannah's father was John Longley and her mother was Ann Lippard. Her paternal grandparents were John Longley and Esther Kenward. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Henry, Frances, Alice and Julia. She is the second oldest of the six children.
