Joseph SMITH

Joseph was born on September 4th, 1783 in Frederick Co., Virginia.¹ Joseph's father was Jacob SMITH and his mother was Patience BALLINGER. His paternal grandfather was Joseph SMITH and his paternal grandmother is Rachel BEALS BALES; his maternal grandparents are Josiah BALLINGER and Elizabeth. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named John, Josiah B., Jacob, Isaac S., Seth, Elizabeth, Rachel, Nancy Ann, Mary, Lydia, Sarah J. and Hannah. He was the fourth oldest of the thirteen children. He died before 1800.¹
